If you have been to any cosmetics counter, you have probably seen products that label themselves as "does not contain parabens". However, a lot of people still do not know whether it is OK to have them in your cream or not. There are heated discussions within the cosmetics industry regarding the safety of these ingredients. Many of the known brands still keep them in their products, so they cannot be that bad, right? The answer is "we don't know".

Parabens are being used in cosmetics as preservatives for decades. They protect the products against contamination with bacteria and fungi. The problem with parabens is that there have been some studies showing that they may be associated with breast cancer and we already know that they do have estrogenic properties in the human body.

Although, American Cancer Society concludes there is insufficient scientific evidence to definitively say that parabens cause cancer, we at SkinGenX believe in precautionary principle and think they should not be used in cosmetics products until larger scientific studies can provide more definitive conclusions about their safety. There are other and safer alternative ingredients that can be used. We encourage our customers to try to choose products that do not include these ingredients until we know more about their long term effects.
